Hero Priest of the Titanic

It’s been a while since we’ve blogged (life’s been busy and full of quite a bit of sicknees in our family), and this is going to be a different kind of post.  As a long-time Titanic enthusiast, though, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity, on this 100th anniversary of the sinking, to point our readers to the story of Father Thomas Byles here.  Father Byles was a convert himself and, quite simply, a hero who, to the very end, was winning souls for the heavenly kingdom as the great ship sank.  Read his story–with a handkerchief close by.  And then praise God for his life and pray for the souls of all those lost in the disaster:

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a Cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
